Environment Canterbury is the lead agency for the provision of public passenger transport services and registering commercial public transport services and is an advocating and influencing agency for the provision of public transport infrastructure by territorial authorities and the New Zealand Transport Agency (under the Land Transport Act 1998, Public Transport Management Act 2008 and the Land Transport Management Act 2003).
